Thanks for the opportunity to serve Tags 2016-03-17 This is my first blog on BizBreakfast.net. BizBreakfast.net has gone through a few iterations. The name was derived because I was doing Business Breakfast Networking events called Breakfast with Fran. We were part of a national program designed to connect with small business owners. After that ran it's course, I would post information to inspire and help business owners. I still work for the same companies and provide life events legal & business solution and a great identity theft protection plans but the mission of BizBreakfast.net has changed. You can find that information at www.BarrySterlingMitchell.com. The stated mission of BizBreakfast.net is to promote the concept of Financial Independence by Saving, Investing and Entrepreneurship. While working for 35 years at Verizon, I lived by the creed that it took a full time job & a part time hustle just to keep up, so one of my professional pursuits led me to work with Primerica then A. L. Williams. there I became licensed to sell life insurance and I held Series 6 & 63 investment licenses. It was the first time I had been introduced to the concept of financial independence. My working definition of financial independence is having enough asset based income sufficient to cover your cost of living. I was thirty when this happened. I am very thankful for being made aware of the concept and even more thankful to have had the good fortune to work for a company that was unionized and provided the kind of benefits that those same companies are doing their level best to dismantle today. I was taken care of during my period of ignorance. I believe that today's young working generations no longer have the luxury of ignorance. They have few chances for long term work at a major business or institution with pensions and must take much more responsibility for their financial future. I believe that if our young people know that it is possible and people are doing it, they will be more hopeful. A young person that sees that you don't have to have special entertainment or athletic talents to reach financial freedom, can proudly pursue other careers with their eyes on the prize. It's being done and it's instructive to see how. The same concepts that were taught to me thirty plus years ago still apply. Concepts like the compound interest formula are taught in grade school but not in a way that we hold onto and apply in our working life.Einstein called compound interest the 'Eighth wonder of the World but the average person struggles with the concept and missuses their most valuable asset; their time.
